A New Perspective on Leadership Burnout, Sustainable Success, and Women's Executive Capacity

Protect Her Aliveness: Everything Beautiful Grows From there

Are women really burning out?

I’m beginning to think we’ve been describing the wrong phenomenon.

Most women don't suddenly burn out.

We slowly drift.

Not away from work.

Away from themselves.

The drift is almost imperceptible.

It happens one meeting at a time.

One promotion at a time.

One expectation at a time.

One season of carrying more than we ever imagined we could.

Until one day, the woman beneath the role becomes harder to find.

She still performs.

She still delivers.

She still leads.

She still carries.

From the outside, she appears remarkably successful.

But success can sometimes hide a quiet truth.

The role has begun consuming the very woman carrying it.

Not dramatically.

Quietly.

A little less laughter.

A little less play.

A little less curiosity.

A little less creativity.

A little less wonder.

A little less presence.

A little less aliveness.

We’ve become extraordinarily skilled at measuring performance.

We celebrate achievement.

Execution.

Influence.

Resilience.

Capacity.

But I wonder if we’ve overlooked the one thing that makes all of those possible in the first place.

A woman’s aliveness.

I don’t believe aliveness is separate.

I believe it’s strategic.

It is where discernment lives.

It is where creativity lives.

It is where intuition, courage, wisdom, and human connection live.

It is the part of us that sees what spreadsheets cannot measure and titles cannot confer.

When a woman loses her aliveness, she doesn’t immediately lose her ability to lead.

She loses the part of herself that makes her leadership renewable.

That is a very different conversation than burnout.

Burnout describes exhaustion.

What concerns me is quiet consumption.

The slow drift from the woman she was into the role she carries.

For too long, we’ve celebrated women for how much they can hold.

I’m becoming more interested in something else.

What allows a woman to hold extraordinary responsibility…without gradually disappearing beneath it?

That question has changed the way I think about leadership and lead.

Leadership should expand a woman.

Not slowly consume her.

Power should never cost a woman herself.

The future belongs to women who protect the source of their leadership, not just the expression of it.

Women who understand that renewal is not a reward after the work.

It is the condition that makes meaningful work sustainable.

Protect her aliveness.

Because when we protect her aliveness, we protect her leadership.

We protect her relationships.

We protect her creativity.

We protect her capacity to imagine what does not yet exist.

We protect the future she is here to build.

Everything beautiful grows from there.

Warmly,

Eva Simone
