Can Leadership Be Feminine? | Why Self-Trust Is a Leadership Advantage.

Can leadership be feminine? For years leadership has been defined by strategy, decisiveness, and executive. But what if one of the most overlooked leadership capacities is a woman's ability to remain connected to her deepest intelligence while she leads?

Lately, I’ve been paying attention to something that’s changing in me.

Not my business.

Not my strategy.

Me.

What changed in me?

I’ve noticed that I don’t make decisions the way I used to.

When something doesn’t feel aligned, I don’t rush past it.

I stay with it.

When my body tightens, I become curious instead of convincing myself I’m overthinking.

When a quiet knowing rises within me, I no longer rush to silence it with logic.

I listen.

Not because I’m becoming less rational.

Because I’m becoming more integrated.

For years, I believed leadership meant becoming increasingly decisive.

Move faster.

Know more.

Carry more.

Solve more.

Produce more.

I became very good at all of those things.

The Deepest Intelligence We Override.

But somewhere along the way, I also became skilled at dismissing the quiet voice that couldn’t yet defend itself.

The part of me that noticed before I had evidence.

The part of me that sensed incongruence before I could articulate it.

The part that didn’t always have an explanation…but was rarely surprised by the outcome.

When I ignored her, life became my teacher.

The conversation I knew I shouldn’t have entered.

The opportunity that looked perfect on paper but never felt right.

The partnership that everyone celebrated except something inside me.

Time after time, I found myself saying the same words.

I should have listened to myself.

I’ve become fascinated by that sentence.

Because who is this “myself” we speak about as though she were someone else?

Why do so many accomplished women trust everyone before they trust her?

Why have we become so practiced at seeking more information while overlooking the intelligence already trying to reach us?

The more I sit with those questions, the more another question continues to emerge.

Can leadership be feminine?

Yes, it can.

Not because feminine leadership is softer.

Not because women need another list of leadership competencies.

But because I’m beginning to believe leadership was never meant to require us to disconnect from the deepest intelligence within us.

Feminine leadership begins with a different commitment.

Not to becoming more impressive.

But to becoming more trustworthy to ourselves.

To recognizing that the relationship we have with our own inner authority shapes every conversation, every hire, every partnership, every strategic decision, and every culture we help create.

Because before leadership reaches a boardroom…it passes through a human being.

Before it becomes strategy…it begins as perception.

Before it becomes influence…it begins as relationship.

The relationship we have with ourselves may be one of the most overlooked dimensions of leadership.

Not self-confidence.

Not self-esteem.

Something quieter.

Self-trust.

The willingness to remain with ourselves long enough to hear what we already know.

I’ve started wondering whether many women haven’t lost their intuition at all.

We’ve simply become faster at overriding it.

We’ve learned to explain away discomfort.

To mistake urgency for clarity.

To seek certainty when discernment was already present.

To value proof over presence.

And because we’ve become rewarded for those habits, we’ve begun calling them leadership.

But what if they aren’t?

What if embodied leadership is not measured only by how effectively we influence others…but by how faithfully we remain connected to ourselves while doing it?

That question has changed the way I lead.

Not because I have fewer responsibilities.

I have more.

Not because my ambitions have become smaller.

They’ve become larger.

The difference is that I no longer believe my greatest responsibility is simply making the right decision. I believe it is remaining connected to the woman who must make it.

Because when I abandon her…I eventually abandon my own wisdom.

When I remain with her…clarity arrives more quietly, but far more consistently.

Feminine leadership isn’t asking women to become someone different.

It’s asking us to stop leaving behind the woman who has been trying to lead us all along.

Warmly,
